Request A Callback From An Investigator

How Can I Become a Private Investigator?

A private investigator is supposed to be an expert on gathering information in various circumstances. The work of a standard private detective is, in fact, not too different from that of law enforcement officials. This is why many professional investigators have prior experience as police officers or detectives.

However, even an ordinary citizen can become a private investigator without having prior experience. Thanks to investigative training, you can get the skills you'll need as a private investigator.

Which Schools Can I Attend To Become A Private Investigator

There are many institutions that offer investigative training. These training courses are designed for people who have no prior experience in the field. This means you can start from scratch and slowly improve your knowledge and skills.

Institutions offer a variety of training programmes which include:

  • Fulltime training programmes
  • Distance learning programmes
  • Advanced 5 day courses etc.

However, in order to become a licensed private investigator, you'll need to be in an institution where you can attain an IQ Level 3 Award for Professional Investigators. This professional investigators award is the only one that can lead to licensing in the UK.

How To Become A Licensed Private Detective

In the UK, there is only one body that is charged with the issuing of licences for professional private investigators, the Security Industry Authority.

To qualify for the Security Industry Authority License, you'll need:

  • The IQ Level 3 Award
  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Be of sound mind
  • Have a clean criminal record (special considerations can be made in other circumstances)
