Do Background Checks Show Previous Employment?

Employee recruitment is one of the areas that has greatly changed as a result of private investigator background checks. Many employers found themselves in situations where they lost a lot of money or were held legally liable because they hired the wrong people for certain jobs.

As a result, many hire private investigators to ensure they're hiring the right people. Many prospective employees have, however, are unnerved by the prospect of a private investigator conducting a background check on them. This is because many don't yet understand the scope and details of such checks.

When hiring a new employee, there are several things that an employer must first look into. These are:

• The details in the candidate's resume must be accurate
• Whether the candidate's past actions demonstrate them to be a risk or threat to others
• There should be no conflict of interest in hiring them
• The candidate's presence or action shouldn't pose a risk of legal liability in the future etc.

To prospective employers, perhaps the thing that is of most interest is your job history. Therefore, you can rest assured that your previous jobs will show up in an employment background check.

Such checks can tell employers:

• Whether or not you worked at a particular place
• How long you worked at a certain job
• How well you performed on your job
• Whether or not there were incidents at your previous places of employment that should raise red flags etc.

When a private investigator is hired to carry out an employment background check, there is no set period that the check will cover. However, it's your most recent employment history that's usually of interest to employers.

Therefore, don't expect the private investigator to go and meet the manager at the restaurant where you worked for a few months after high school. However, for highly critical roles, it's not unheard of for private investigators to be required to go as far back as possible.
