* Between 1-10 poems in a batch

Looks like it's been a pretty good second half of the year, poetry activity-wise. I hope things continue in this vein. Hurray!

I also want to take on more fiction- and play-writing this year but we'll see how that goes. I seem to value my lazing-around-to-think-and-daydream time more.

I am also niggled by the fact that writing poems seems to have been sporadic of late. I wonder why that is. Am I losing it? Am I not compelled any more? Or am I just taking a breather?

Just to clarify for myself. My to-do-list:
  1. poems for the dictionary sequence
  2. poems for triptych, part A
  3. poems for triptych, part C
  4. edit and add poems for triptych, part B

I think I'm going to need readers for Part B, the massive middle section. Hm.

Before I forget, here's aCall for Poems. Deadline 28 Feb 09. Entries via online contribution form only.

And it's anonymised, so if you know me, pretend you don't know me.

Make your own luck - 2008-12-30 12:23:00
Just received some sobering news. I will wait until everything's official and straightened out but I guess this means an interesting turn for the New Year. Alack.

Oh, I'm finally pulling my thumb out and will finally sell my red-desked beauty on that online auction thing that everyone uses. I have grown into my desk in the hallway, the mess ebbing and flowing, depending on how conscientious I feel, tapping out my wee words in that transitional, hurrying space between one room and the next.

One no:
Thank you so much for submitting to our press. Though we have decided not to publish your manuscript in our series, we are sending it back with all the best wishes in placing it elsewhere very soon. It might please you to know that your manuscript made it into the final round of consideration , and it was very hard to make decisions (thus why we are running so behind). We get so much good work the last couple of years, given unlimited time and resources, we would love to grab up all the manuscripts we enjoy, we sadly have to turn many quality ones away. Thank you very much, however, for the opportunity to read this...
One yes:
Many thanks for sending us your poems. I’m delighted to accept one of these for publication.

I am afraid that I can’t let you know exactly when they will be published, as we have numerous poems in hand, but I will try to publish them as soon as space allows. The fee will be payable on publication. In the meantime, I would be grateful if you could email me an electronic version of the poems, together with an up-to-date biographical note.
And one hopeful:
I'm letting you know that your poems haven't disappeared into a black hole. I have enjoyed reading them very much and am trying to decide which one to take. I promise to get back to you asap.
That is as it should be. Makes me happy. Leavens the heavy cloud-bread brooding overhead somewhat.

Happy almost 2009!

Merry Christmas! - 2008-12-25 11:26:00
Happy Holidays!

One of my presents is a bilingual edition of Danish poems. Very cool.

Hope Santa put oranges not lumps o' coal in your stocking.

I'm making the Christmas meal this year, so it will be something Filipino-themed, consisting ofchicken and pork adobo, and two desserts:leche flanandputo. Should be pretty yum.

Leche flan really reminds me of the Christmas of my childhood in the Philippines, something I associate as a real treat. Already made it last night, along with the puto, so those are taken care of. The adobo should be a doddle. Can't wait!

Afterwards: a post-prandial stroll, methinks, to walk all the over-indulgence off.

Just taking it easy. Yay for X'mas!
